If you’ve been to Garden Grove, CA, you know it’s known as Korea-town of Orange County. I can’t even begin to tell you how many Korean BBQ restaurants there are just on Garden Grove Boulevard between Brookhurst and Beach. Among the many, many K-BBQ’s, Shik Do Rak has to be one of my favorite.
The little side dishes (Banchan) can make or break a K-BBQ meal. At Shik Do Rak, you get an average of 9 sides. They change them up, but some of the staples are Chopped Salad, Bean Sprout, Spicy Shredded Turnip, Seasoned Fish Cake, Picked Cucumber, Kimchi, Sliced Daikon (to wrap meat with), Seaweed, and Rice Wrapper (to wrap meat with). They also give you a chili sauce and salt/sesame oil mixture to dip your meat. I LOVE the salt/sesame oil sauce. It’s so addicting!
They offer all kinds of meat; Beef, Pork, and Chicken. Other items include Beef Tongue, Short Ribs, Seafood Pancake, Tofu Stew, etc. During weekdays, they also offer All-You-Can-Eat lunch for $16.99. For dinner, there are combo meals you can get, too. But on this particular trip, Allen and I opted to have 2 orders of Sliced Beef. These cook up nicely because of the marble of fat, and are still tender to eat fully BBQ’d.
You’d want to grill the meat well, but not too char’d to burn, to get the grease out. The bus boy will change your grill if it gets too burnt. I really appreciate that because it keeps the meat from blackening.
The common way to eat K-BBQ is to wrap the meat with some sides in either the rice wrapper like a little burrito.
Or Daikon Wrapper, kind of like a little taco. Dip it in the dipping sauce, and you’ll have a little piece of heavenly tasty yumminess! Make sure to drink lots of water to wash down the salt.
Allen and I polished off our dinner and our tummies were very happy!
Don’t forget to get a little cup of Frozen Yogurt on your way out. It’s so refreshing and a nice way to end your meal.
K-BBQ is great for a group gathering. You can order different items to share and try. The service here is friendly but can also lack sometimes when they get too busy. They have call buttons that you can push to get their attention. They will come to you to refill water, banchans, or whatever you need. Just be a little patient. If you’ve had K-BBQ, which restaurant is your favorite?

So funny, my hubby took me to Melrose for dinner tonight and we passed this restaurant in K town. I remembered it was a great place and thought of going back. This is perfect! I didn’t know they had a branch in OC.
