… into your waiting mouth!
Wokcano, a contemporary Asian Restaurant with six locations throughout Southern California. Featuring fresh sushi and creative maki rolls as well as modern riffs on traditional fare, Wokcano offers guests a broad and savory tasting tour of popular Asian cuisines from China, Thailand, Japan and more.
The first Orange County location at Huntington Beach opened a few months ago. We were so excited to visit and find out what the raves were all about! We started with drinks and soon learned that Wokano offers a host of Asian-inspired cocktail selections and a reasonably-priced wine and sake list. Above we selected Ginseng Mule ( Russian Standard Ginsing Vodka, Giffard Ginger, Ginger Beer, Lime) and the Wokcano Pear (Grey Goose Pear, Pear Brandy, Lychee Puree), both were delicious!
For appetizer, we chose Sashimi Appetizer that consisted of Salmon, Tuna, and Yellowtail, a great way to tease your appetite for the food to come.
We wanted to try a bit of everything and love colorful food. This popular Rainbow Roll came highly recommended by the guests in the next booth. A wonderful blend of Tuna, fresh Salmon and Yellowtail on top of a California roll with avocado and ponzu sauce.
Okay we saw the name of the next item and had to experience it. Without further ado we present above, The Monkey Brain. It is easy to see how it got it’s name and despite what may seem gruesome it is actually very tasty – a Tempura Avocado stuffed with fresh Spicy Tuna and Crab meat topped with a Spicy Eel Sauce that explodes in your mouth. No worries, it’s the flavor, the heat is quite tame.
Okay so we had to try some of the more Chinese influenced dishes. First up was the Garlic Black Bean Pork Belly. As much as we enjoyed the first few items we tried, this mix of Premium Pork Belly sautéed with Garlic, Bell Peppers, Jalapeños and Ginger in a Black Bean Sauce just blew us away with its wonderful savory flavor. This is a must try dish!
We sure could not bypass the classic Honey Walnut Shrimp. The Crispy Prawns with Glazed Honey Walnuts were made perfectly and it didn’t take us long to finish the entire dish.
We truly enjoyed Wokcano’s innovative incorporation of vivid regional and multicultural Asian cuisines. Design elements at all locations reflect a chic and relaxing atmosphere perfect for everything from solo dinning at the sushi bar and large groups at a communal table to happy hour drinks in the lounge. Wokcano locations include Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, Burbank, Valencia, Huntington Beach and soon in Santa Ana. If you get a late night craving, just know that Wokcano is open until 2:00 AM everyday! Don’t forget, catering is also available for you special occasion.
Thank you to all the the people at Wokcano that made our experience a great one and we can’t wait to return for more deliciousness.
