You know when they spell donuts ‘doughnuts’, this is no ordinary doughnuts shop. Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee is the brainchild of Chi-Lin and Sumter Pendergrast and Chef Brooke DesPrez. The creative team is committed in providing customers gourmet doughnuts by using only the freshest ingredients, some local some flown in all the way from Portland, OR.
You can’t have doughnuts without coffee. Well, I can’t. After in-depth search and tasting, Portland’s own Stumptown was finally chosen. Each month Sidecar offers different roasts in addition to the infamous Hair Bender espresso. The baristas also whip up some of the best cappuccinos, lattes, and Vietnamese ice coffees in town.
Before the grand opening of the store in Costa Mesa, Sidecar hosted regular sampling, many with this cute antique van. You know they are true artists at heart by the little details all throughout the shop. When I first approached the shop, it felt like one of those boutique cafe in Paris where I visited years ago.
Standard fares like Huckleberry (made with fresh imported huckleberries), the Cinnamon Crumb, and Maple Bacon are always available with Flavors of The Week rotating weekly. I personally love the Raspberry and Callebaut Chocolate.
Thursdays are Vegan and Fridays are Gluten-Free. So if you have special dietary needs, you won’t have to miss out on these artisan doughnuts, either.
Due to overwhelming demand, the store has extended its hours from 6:30am – 4:00pm daily.
Stop by to say ‘Hi’ to Chef Brook, Chi-Lin, or Sumter. But most importantly, enjoy a couple of artisan doughnuts and Stumptown coffee. Take a dozen home to your friends and family. After all, loving is sharing. Let me know what your favorite doughnut is.
