{"id":5720,"date":"2014-03-17T22:47:57","date_gmt":"2014-03-18T05:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=5720"},"modified":"2017-05-23T11:16:56","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T18:16:56","slug":"miyabi-shabu-shabu-grill-irvine-media-tasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=5720","title":{"rendered":"Miyabi Shabu Shabu &#038; Grill @ Irvine &#8211; Media Tasting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have been following me on social media, you probably have seen me check in at shabu shabu restaurants quite often. \u00a0It it by far one of my favorite meals that I can eat any time any day. \u00a0I grew up eating (Chinese) Hot Pot, but strangely enough, it took a few tries before I fell in love with Japanese Shabu Shabu. \u00a0And now I can&#8217;t get enough of it!<\/p>\n<p>What is Shabu Shabu? \u00a0It is a dish which you cook meat and vegetables in a pot of broth, served with steamed rice and 2 sauces; ponzu (citrus infused soy sauce) for dipping the meat\/seafood, and gorma (sesame\/peanut sauce) for dipping vegetables. \u00a0At the end of the meal, left over soup is used to cook udon (Japanese noodle) and\/or rice noodle to be eaten as soup.<\/p>\n<p>Miyabi Shabu Shabu and Grill grand-opened in October of 2013 in Irvine Villiage Center. \u00a0In addition to Shabu Shabu, the restaurant also serves Yakitori (Japanese style BBQ skewer), Teppanyaki and Sushi\/Sashimi. \u00a0&#8220;Our mission is to serve high quality meat and freshest vegetables and seafood. \u00a0For example, we use Jidori Chicken, Kuraburta Pork, Angus Beef, and Wagyu Beef.&#8221; \u00a0It&#8217;s no wonder that, in the short few months, Miyabi has been gaining popularity and loyal customers through word of mouths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">(Photo by <a href=\"http:\/\/allentaylorphotography.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Allen Taylor Photography<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-79.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/jpg139.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" \/>The interior is modern and elegant. \u00a0There is a familiar shabu shabu bar in the center of the dinning room. \u00a0There are also many smaller tables for 4 along the 2 sides of the dinning room as well as a private party room in the back. \u00a0Allen and I were greeted by the lovely owner\/host, Ms. An, who chatted with us all evening. \u00a0She talked about the restaurant with so much love and passion as if it was her child. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-13.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>We left it to Ms. An for the &#8216;blind&#8217; \u00a0tasting. \u00a0For the beverage, Allen got a soda and I asked for Green Tea. \u00a0Soon 2 small plates of Edamame (steamed soy beans sprinkled with sea salt) arrived. \u00a0These are great little snacks to munch on while you wait for the rest of the food to arrive.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-43.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>Followed by Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus. \u00a0You know what they say &#8211; bacon makes everything better! \u00a0The asparagus were really tender as well. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Collages364.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" \/>The Chicken Meatball and Shioyaki (salt-grilled) wings were delicious! \u00a0The quality of Jidori chicken is definitely evident in the taste. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5730\" alt=\"jpg137\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/jpg137.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/jpg137.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/jpg137-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ms. An offered me the Angus Rib-Tye Prime (large) Shabu Shabu. \u00a0Whatever meat you order, it&#8217;s sliced in front of the bar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5734\" alt=\"Miyabi-26\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-26.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-26.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-26-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>These slices of beef were so fresh and tender that they almost didn&#8217;t require chewing!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-37.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>A plate of fresh vegetables with mushroom, tofu, broccoli, fish cake, bok choy, udon, and rice noodle is part of the ensemble.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-30.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>Here is a picture of the complete meal along with the sauces and garnishments; grated daikon, garlic, and green onion. \u00a0Miyabi has the best gorma sauce in all of the shabu shabu restaurants I&#8217;ve dined at. \u00a0The bowl of sesame seeds that you get to hand crush added extra punch to the gorma sauce. \u00a0Oh, if you like it spicy, don&#8217;t forget to ask for hot drops. \u00a0But go easy on the drop as it is VERY spicy. \u00a0Start with 1 drop first and see how well you can handle it.<\/p>\n<p>You might also notice that the color of the broth is different. \u00a0That is because, the broth is simmered with seaweed and several types of mushroom. \u00a0Not just plain water with a couple pieces of seaweed like most other Shabu Shabu restaurant. \u00a0This makes a huge difference in the flavor as you cook the veggies and meat.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Miyabi-40.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>I&#8217;ve never seen an individual Teppanyaki until now. \u00a0This was Allen&#8217;s dinner &#8211; Wafu Steak. \u00a0When it was first brought out, it was sizzling but barely cooked. \u00a0It continues to cook at your table until the desired level, then the server shuts off the heat. \u00a0If you want the steak more on the rare side, you can just remove it onto the plate and continue to cook the vegetables &#8211; mushroom, pumpkin, broccoli, onion, carrots, and chili pepper. \u00a0Allen likes his steak medium. \u00a0It was juicy and tender. \u00a0The ginger garlic sauce took the flavor up another notch! \u00a0It was delicious! \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/jpg138.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>The entree is also served with miso soup. \u00a0This is a great alternative if someone in your party doesn&#8217;t want shabu shabu. \u00a0He\/she wouldn&#8217;t miss out the party because there are plenty of other entrees to order. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Collages363.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>We finished our amazing dinner with tasty Green Tea and Black Sesame Ice Cream. \u00a0Yum yum!<\/p>\n<p>Miyabi serves lunch daily from 11:30 am &#8211; 2:00 pm (2:30 pm Friday &#8211; Sunday). \u00a0Lunch Bento is only $10 with\u00a0Miso Soup, Salad, Sashimi, California Roll, Shrimp &amp; Veg.
