{"id":5318,"date":"2014-01-19T19:26:26","date_gmt":"2014-01-20T03:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=5318"},"modified":"2017-05-23T11:26:47","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T18:26:47","slug":"rusty-pelican-newport-beach-restaurant-week-media-tasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=5318","title":{"rendered":"Rusty Pelican Restaurant @ Newport Beach &#8211; Restaurant Week Media Tasting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Newport Beach, known for its many harbors and beaches, is also home to many fine dining restaurants. \u00a0And the best time to try them is during the annual Newport Beach Restaurant Week when many of them offer special Prix Fixe menus at outstanding prices; lunch at $20 and dinner $30. \u00a0You can view the menu <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newportbeachdining.com\/newport-beach-restaurants\/335-Rusty-Pelican-p.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. \u00a0This year, the 8th Annual Newport Beach Restaurant Week takes place from Friday, January 17th through Sunday, January 26th. \u00a0Allen and I were so excited we got to preview Rusty Pelican&#8217;s dinner menu last week.<\/p>\n<p>Located on Pacific Coast Highway, the restaurant made its home right next to the harbor. \u00a0Appropriately, the restaurant is themed like a ship with its round windows and nautical decors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">(Photo by <a href=\"http:\/\/allentaylorphotography.com\" target=\"_blank\">Allen Taylor Photography<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages171.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" \/>And of course, the Pelican to greet you as you arrive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5330\" alt=\"RP-43\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/RP-43.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/RP-43.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/RP-43-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>\u00a0For over 40 years, Rusty Pelican has been serving \u00a0fabulous seafood flown in daily. \u00a0In addition to\u00a0fresh fish, lobster, King Crab, the menu also includes chicken and USDA steaks . The impressive wine and cocktail menu offers great drinks to complement your meal. \u00a0We ordered a\u00a0Pama Shaker Margarita (This was not comp&#8217;ed). \u00a0It&#8217;s made with Patron Silver Tequila, pama pomegranate liqueur, with pomegranate juice, and sweet and sour. \u00a0You get a big shaker that&#8217;s good for about 2 refills of the glasses. \u00a0I loved how refreshing the drink was. \u00a0Instead of a regular bread basket, GM, Steve Burke, sent over\u00a0Fresh Garlic Bread (Rusty\u2019s original recipe since 1965). \u00a0This is one garlic bread not to miss!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/jpeg3.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" \/>The Prix Menu consists of 1 appetizer, 1 entree, and 1 dessert. \u00a0Allen chose Calamari Fritti. \u00a0This is made with calamari steak tempura style served with chili ancho sauce. \u00a0The calamari was very tender in light batter fried to perfection. \u00a0The chili ancho sauce had a nice heat but not too spicy. \u00a0I also appreciated the pickled vegetables on the side. \u00a0 Just a side note, the portions for the 2 appetizers were full-size. \u00a0For the Prix Fixe menu, they would be a little smaller. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages165.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>My appetizer was Cajun Shrimp served with garlic toasts. \u00a0Spicy shrimp scampi is how I would describe it. \u00a0Don&#8217;t worry about it being too spicy. \u00a0It just had enough heat but not enough to burn. \u00a0The shrimp were somewhat translucent in texture. \u00a0I am quite curious how they were cooked. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages166.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>Our server highly recommended the\u00a0Spicy Orange Ginger Glaze Mahi Mahi (chargrilled, sweet and spicy glaze,\u00a0jasmine rice). \u00a0\u00a0This was a perfect dish for Allen as he likes food with bolder flavor. \u00a0A bit spicy, a bit tangy with mild ginger taste, the sauce perfectly complimented the delicate fish.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages167.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>I went for my usual Salmon for the &#8216;Simply Grilled Fresh Fish&#8217;. \u00a0&#8220;In the spirit of showcasing the quality of our Fresh Fish\u00a0we simply season and grill our selections,\u00a0pairing them with the seasons freshest vegetables\u00a0and a light lemon herb sauce.&#8221;. I couldn&#8217;t agree with them more! \u00a0It was simple, fresh, and delicious!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages168.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>You can enjoy an outdoor patio or indoor dining. \u00a0Either way, you have gorgeous view of the harbor.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages164.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" \/>3rd course dessert, \u00a0we chose Individual Banana Bread Pudding (served warm with cream anglaise) and Individual Chocolate Torte (decadent flourless chocolate cake served warm topped with vanilla iced cream).<\/p>\n<p>The Banana Bread Pudding had a denser texture than others I&#8217;ve tried but it was still light and won&#8217;t weight you down.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages169.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>Individual Chocolate Torte was simply amazing! \u00a0I am usually not a fan of flourless chocolate cake because a lot of time, it tastes like thickened mouse. \u00a0But I am totally a fan of this. \u00a0The top layer of the cake was a little chewy like the texture of macaron followed by real chocolate. \u00a0I highly recommend this. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collages170.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are over 60 restaurants participating in the Newport Beach Restaurant Week, please make Rusty Pelican one of your choices. \u00a0You still have a week to try the Restaurant Week lunch or dinner menu. \u00a0Call\u00a0949-642-3431 to make your reservation. \u00a0Walk-ins are welcome, too. \u00a0Outstanding food and service are the reasons why Rusty Pelican has been a local favorite as well as tourists&#8217; must-eat hot spot.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to General Manager, Steve Burke, and its entire staff for their hospitality!
