{"id":4499,"date":"2013-10-07T00:44:18","date_gmt":"2013-10-07T07:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=4499"},"modified":"2017-05-23T11:31:19","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T18:31:19","slug":"mimis-cafe-tustin-more-cest-si-bon-than-ever-media-tasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=4499","title":{"rendered":"MiMi&#8217;s Cafe @ Tustin &#8211; More C&#8217;est Si Bon Than Ever Media Tasting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I think of Mimi&#8217;s, breakfast pops in my mind.\u00a0 There was a time I was at Mimi&#8217;s almost every Saturday for breakfast and occasionally for lunch or dinner, too.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve always enjoyed the neighborhood casual dining and friendly service at Mimi&#8217;s.\u00a0 It has been awhile and I was extremely excited to be invited back to Mimi&#8217;s at Tustin to try their all new French inspired menu which debuts on Monday, October 7, 2013.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4518\" alt=\"mimi-106\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/mimi-106.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/mimi-106.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/mimi-106-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Guests were greeted with classic French cocktails and wines.\u00a0 Mimi\u2019s Cafe new President, Phil Costner, gave a welcome speech and background information on the concept and creation of French inspired menu items.\u00a0 You might be interested to know that Mr. Costner is a trained chef himself.\u00a0 He believes in spending time in the kitchen more than the board room.\u00a0 With a leader like that, you know Mimi&#8217;s Cafe is going to make some new and delicious changes. \u00a0 \u00a0<b><i> <\/i><\/b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jpg88.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" \/>&#8220;We are returning Mimi&#8217;s Cafe to its rightful place doing what others can do but won&#8217;t do.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;We want to be the neighborhood&#8217;s restaurant where friends and family can enjoy great\u00a0French causal dining without breaking the bank.&#8221; says Mr. Costner. \u00a0<i><b> <\/b><\/i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Collages321.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>We were presented with our first appetizer &#8211; Artisan Baked Brie (Warm, bubbly brie with French baguette croutons, tart apple slices and apricot chutney).\u00a0\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know but this tasted so good that I think it should be in the desserts category.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Collages322.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>The Corn Chowder was really creamy and lightly sweet while the French Onion soup was savory with gooey melted cheese.\u00a0 I was really worried that it&#8217;d be too salty but it was just perfect. \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/mimi-36.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>Mussels \u00e0 la Mimi&#8217;s (Steamed in white wine, garlic and fresh herbes, served with garlic French baguette croutons) was light and buttery.\u00a0 The French baguette croutons were so good we asked for an additional plate full of it!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/mimi-22.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Petite Seafood Cr\u00eape (Homemade herbe cr\u00eape with saut\u00e9ed shrimp, scallops and spinach in a savory, creamy lobster sauce) was amazing. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the sauce was creamy but light.\u00a0 I am not usually a fan of crepe because often it&#8217;s made too thick, but this had the right texture and consistency.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Collages326.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Grilled Salmon Salade Ni\u00e7oise (Grilled Atlantic salmon served on top of mixed greens with Kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, red onions, haricots verts, proven\u00e7al potatoes and hard-boiled egg, tossed in Mimi\u2019s red wine shallot vinaigrette).\u00a0 I love salmon especially as a salad.\u00a0 I adored this dish and loved the red wine shallot vinaigrette!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/mimi-55.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/>If you love spicy food and pasta, you are in lucky. The new Saint-Malo Pasta (Mussels and fresh linguine topped with a spicy pomodoro sauce. Served with garlic French baguette croutons) had nice heat you just couldn&#8217;t stop eating after the first bite.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/mimi-58.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mimi&#8217;s Signature Bouillabaisse (A traditional Proven\u00e7al-seasoned soupe with mussels, shrimp and scallops simmered in white wine with potatoes and tomatoes. Served with garlic French baguette croutons) had tons of seafood.\u00a0 However I found the broth a little bland and too starchy.\u00a0 My fellow bloggers and I made a little suggestion to the chef and I am anxious to find out if the recipe might have be revised.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4530\" alt=\"jpg91b\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jpg91b.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jpg91b.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jpg91b-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bistro Bavette Steak (French-style grilled steak served with mushroom-infused au gratin potatoes and your choice of a bordelaise or b\u00e9arnaise sauce and seasonal vegetables).\u00a0 We got to try both sauces and I liked bordelaise sauce a little better.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Collages325.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Brioche Croque Madame (Open-faced ham and Swiss sandwich with our classic French Mornay sauce served on brioche and topped with a fried egg\u2014c\u2019est magnifique! Served with a Petite Salade de Mimi\u2019s).\u00a0 This actually is a French twist of the traditional Eggs Benedict which I recently have grown quite fond of.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Collages327.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/>As if we weren&#8217;t stuffed enough, we also tried Bacon Apple Waffle (Three golden brown petite waffles topped with apples, hickory-smoked bacon, syrup and a hint of orange zest) and Strawberry Waffle Perdu (Mimi\u2019s original pain perdu filling of cream cheese and orange marmalade on three golden brown petite waffles topped with fresh strawberry sauce), both are available for breakfast.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pp-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/bloggie8.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Executive Chef, Katie Sutton, was also on site to meet and greet us.\u00a0 Chef Sutton is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute and is the driving force for the culinary innovation behind the new menus.\u00a0 The &#8216;New&#8217;
