{"id":4015,"date":"2013-08-27T00:15:13","date_gmt":"2013-08-27T07:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=4015"},"modified":"2017-05-23T11:37:00","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T18:37:00","slug":"riviera-magazines-second-annual-to-live-dine-chefs-challenge-soco-costa-mesa-media-tasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=4015","title":{"rendered":"Riviera Magazine&#8217;s Second Annual To Live &#038; Dine Chef&#8217;s Challenge @ SoCo Costa Mesa &#8211; Media Tasting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not everyday one gets to meet 19 of the most talented chefs all in one night.\u00a0 Allen and I were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend Riviera Magazine&#8217;s 2nd Annual To Live &amp; Dine Chef&#8217;s Challenge hosted by Chef Jet Tila and Chef Stan Frazier at The OC Mix at South Coast Collection (SOCO).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4048\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Riviera11.jpg\" width=\"429\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Riviera11.jpg 429w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Riviera11-201x300.jpg 201w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The talented chefs served up their signature fares competing to earn the gold coins from attendees.\u00a0 At the end of the night, chef with the most coins won.\u00a0 This event also supported a worthy cause as portion of the proceeds would benefit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.casaoc.org\" target=\"_blank\">Court Appointed Special Advocates of Orange County (CASA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">(Photos by <a href=\"http:\/\/allentaylorphotography.com\" target=\"_blank\">Allen Taylor Photography<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4026\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg43.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg43.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg43-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/>Right after we checked in, we came upon Mastro&#8217;s table serving up smoked Scottish salmon with parsnip puree, shaved root veggies, crisp prosciutto, radish, and smoked tomato vinaigrette.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4030\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-8.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-8.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-8-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Brasserie Pascal served some beautiful oysters topped with microgreens.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4019\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages200.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages200.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages200-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chef Alessandro of Mare and Alessa cooked up delicious Lobster Ravioli.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4018\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages199.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages199.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages199-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The well known food truck, Taco Maria, has now opened its brick-and-Mortar at SOCO and made this amazing soft cooked egg with green chorizo and shery cream.\u00a0 And if you want extra seasoning, you will find peppercorns and sea salt at the bottom of the container. How cool was that?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4028\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg45.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg45.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg45-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/>ARC Restaurant made these small bites called Land.Sea.Air with pork, duck, quail, and caviar on crispy shells.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4052\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg48.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg48.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg48-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas, where you can watch a movie and dine, created Octopus Ceviche (pictured above left) and Crispy Pork Belly Sliders (pictured bottom right).\u00a0 The Iron Press served skewered waffle, fried chicken, bacon, and tater tots (pictured above bottom left) on a toothpick and drizzled with sriracha ketchup. And Jizake Sushi (formerly Waiiha Sushi) made\u00a0 Cucumber Rolls (pictured above upper right).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4053\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg50.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg50.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg50-300x246.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bread Artisan Bakery made an assortment of beautiful breads.\u00a0 I normally try to eat very little bread at tasting but these were too good to resist.\u00a0 I even got a sample bag to take home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4031\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-21.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-21.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-21-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We Olive at the OC Mart Mix set up a few samples for guests to try.\u00a0 I really love their flavored olive oils.\u00a0 Did you know if you bring the bottle back to refill, you get $6 off?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4043\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-57.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-57.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/riviera-57-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I recently did a tasting at Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop and tried these Grilled Deliciousness (grilled peach with peach puree, salted pecan-crusted burrata cheese, baby arugula, &amp; prosciutto salad with balsamic reduction).\u00a0 I was thrilled to see them again.\u00a0 Needless to say, I had more than one.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4016\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages172.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages172.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages172-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sandy&#8217;s of HB created a delightful layered seafood cocktail (lobster, shrimp, orange chili sauce, and avocado) in a cucumber cup.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4020\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages201.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages201.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages201-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cocktails were served, too.\u00a0 Unfortunately when it was our turn, they ran out of ice and couldn&#8217;t make anymore.\u00a0 This happened at 2 of the 3 cocktail stations.\u00a0 One of the bartenders offered shots instead.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4024\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages205.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"699\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages205.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages205-300x246.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Cheese Shop made melted Raclette cheese over chips, topped with mini gerkins, pickled red onions, and prosciutto.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4023\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages204.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages204.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages204-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wildfish&#8217;s Pan Seared Jumbo Scallops were presented on whole scallop shells that awed the guests.\u00a0 I saw some people took the shells home afterward. <b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4025\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages206.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages206.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages206-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Charlie Palmer at Bloomingdale&#8217;s smoked and cooked their Smoked Bulgogi Philly Steak Sandwich on a jalapeno mini brioche roll (pictured above top).\u00a0 Wild Goose Tavern&#8217;s\u00a0spicy slider on<b> <\/b>cornmeal buns and a side of black beans (pictured above bottom left).\u00a0 The Winery, soon to open their second location in Newport Beach, proudly presented Duck Confit with Black Truffle\u00a0over kale risotto.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4022\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages203.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages203.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Collages203-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Ranch, winner of To Live and Dine 2012, did not disappoint this year, either.\u00a0 Sea of Cortez Diver Scallop with Prosciutto wrapped fig, Heirloom Tomato Tortilla Soup (not pictured), and Hand Crafted Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches were all delicious!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4027\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg44.jpg\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg44.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jpg44-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, the night belonged to Chapter One &#8211; The Modern Local!
