{"id":3017,"date":"2013-03-31T21:17:47","date_gmt":"2013-04-01T04:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=3017"},"modified":"2017-05-23T11:46:16","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T18:46:16","slug":"sen-of-japan-las-vegas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=3017","title":{"rendered":"Sen of Japan @ Las Vegas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to Japanese cuisine, I have to admit, I am not very adventurous.\u00a0 I am extremely sensitive to fishy smell so there are a lot of fish I wouldn&#8217;t eat even when cooked, let alone raw.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t until my friend, Julie Lim, owner of <a href=\"http:\/\/ocwinemart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">OC Wine Mart<\/a>, who introduced me to Omakase (Chef&#8217;s Tasting Menu) that I truly learned to appreciate the art of Sushi.\u00a0 It was an eye and palate opening experience that I finally realized &#8216;good sushi&#8217; never tastes fishy.\u00a0 Julie is a huge fan of Sen of Japan.\u00a0 Whenever she travels to Las Vegas, this is one restaurant she always makes a point to stop by.\u00a0 I had wanted to try it for a long time and finally made it here about a month ago.\u00a0 All I can say is that this was probably the BEST sushi experience I&#8217;ve had my entire life!\u00a0\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve never dined at Sen of Japan, whether you think you like Sushi or not, please give it a try.\u00a0 You will not be disappointed.\u00a0 In fact, you might fall in love with it as much I did!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3019\" title=\"Collages74\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages74.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages74.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages74-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Like many Japanese restaurants, the interior is painted a happy red.\u00a0 Did you know the color red stimulates appetite?\u00a0 But diners here will tell you, it&#8217;s the food that entices them to come back again and again.\u00a0 This little restaurant off the strip is run by former head chef of Nobu (at the Hard Rock), Hiromi Nakano.\u00a0 I kid you not, you&#8217;re feasting on Nobu quality sushi at about 1\/2 of the price.<\/p>\n<p>Allen ordered a bottle of Kirin Ichiban beer.\u00a0 I loved how cute the small glass was.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3021\" title=\"SOJ-1\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-1.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-1-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/>Sen of Japan offers two Omakase menu; $55 and $85.\u00a0 Since it was our first visit, we decided to try the $85 one.\u00a0 Make sure you let the chef know (if he doesn&#8217;t already ask) which visit (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) it is because he will adjust the menu accordingly to give you the ultimate sushi experience.<\/p>\n<p>Our dining excursion began with Kumato Oyster and Garlic Hamachi (Jalapeno, Fried Garlic, ponzu sauce).\u00a0 I had to ponder twice before eating the oyster as I&#8217;ve NEVER had raw oyster before.\u00a0 To my surprise, it was not as &#8216;scary&#8217; as I thought it might be.\u00a0 I tasted the oyster but with the onion and sauce, it didn&#8217;t taste &#8216;raw&#8217; to me and was actually very good!\u00a0 The Garlic Hamachi was sweet with a bit of heat from the jalapeno and was just lovely.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3022\" title=\"SOJ-2\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-2.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-2-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Second course was Sashimi Salad (Tuna, Salmon, Albacore, Garlic Olive Oil, Capers, Arugula, Daikon Relish).\u00a0 The fish were so fresh and the dressing gave it just enough flavor but not over powering the fish.\u00a0 It was clean, simple, and delightful.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3023\" title=\"SOJ-3\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-3.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-3-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Third course was Lobster Salad (Chile Garlic, Grape Seed Oil Vinegar, Lemon Dressing).\u00a0 Oh my goodness!\u00a0 The lobster chunks were so delicious.\u00a0 The light tartness in the dressing (very minimum) really enhanced the sweetness of the lobster.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3020\" title=\"SOJ_JPEG\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ_JPEG.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ_JPEG.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ_JPEG-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Fourth course was Butter Fish (Gois Gra Wasabi Aioli, Shishito Pepper, Sweet Soy).\u00a0 As the name &#8216;butter&#8217; suggests, it literally melted in the mouth!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3024\" title=\"SOJ-7\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-7.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-7-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Fifth course was Filet Mignon (Steamed Asparagus, Mustard Sauce).\u00a0 The meat was cooked perfectly medium and so juicy and melt-in-the mouth tender.\u00a0 I think American Steakhouse should take a lesson from Sen of Japan because so many of them do not know how to cook steak medium properly.\u00a0 I also loved how mild the sauce was not to mask the meat so I could taste the flavor completely.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3025\" title=\"SOJ-8\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-8.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-8-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By the time the 6th course was served, I was already stuffed!\u00a0 But just look at how beautiful these sushi were!\u00a0 Thankfully, the rice was minimum, as authentic sushi should be, I savored each piece one after another.\u00a0 They were perfection in every bite!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3026\" title=\"SOJ-9\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-9.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-9-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Blue Fin Tuna with Waki Wasabi Dressing (upper left), Scallop in Spicy Lime (middle left), Susuki Seabass (lower left), Iskaki Sweet Snapper with Wasabi Stem Olive oil (upper right), Japanese Snapper with Red Wine Reduction (middle right).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3018\" title=\"Collages73\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages73.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages73.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages73-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seventh course was Miso Clam Soup.\u00a0 Unlike other miso soup which usually is dirty and salty, this was light but you could taste the soup was simmered for a long time to get that &#8216;seafood&#8217; flavor.\u00a0 It really was a perfect bowl of soup.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3027\" title=\"SOJ-15\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-15.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-15-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Of course the meal would not be complete without dessert.\u00a0 Our last and 9th course was Chocolate Souffle with Green Tea Ice Cream.\u00a0 Not only did Sen of Japan do Sushi right, it did dessert right, too.\u00a0 It was a perfect ending to a perfect meal!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3029\" title=\"SOJ-18\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-18.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-18-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/>We sat right in front of Shinji-San who guided us every step of the way explaining each and every dish and how to eat them.\u00a0 For example when not to dip in the wasabi\/soy sauce so it wouldn&#8217;t clash with the sauce already on the fish.\u00a0 He also chatted\/joked with us the entire time except when he was preparing the sushi.\u00a0 He was very serious with great concentration, so we knew not to talk to him as he sliced each piece of fish with precision.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3028\" title=\"SOJ-17\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-17.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-17.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/SOJ-17-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our server was prompt with refills of tea and water and very friendly and attentive throughout.\u00a0 I will also let you in on a little secret.\u00a0 Sen of Japan serves Happy Hour nightly from 10:30pm &#8211;
