{"id":2970,"date":"2013-03-30T13:07:30","date_gmt":"2013-03-30T20:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=2970"},"modified":"2017-05-23T11:46:21","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T18:46:21","slug":"bistango-restaurant-irvine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=2970","title":{"rendered":"Bistango Restaurant @ Irvine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I arrived home to find a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Allen and a hand-made card from my daughter.\u00a0 Ahhhhh, it was my birthday.\u00a0 :)I am never big on celebration of any sort, especially for my birthday.\u00a0 And now as I get older and older, I really would much rather forget I was getting another year older.\u00a0 Nevertheless, a birthday dinner reservation was made in my honor.<\/p>\n<p>Allen had photographed for Bistango&#8217;s new beer\/wine pairing menus a few weeks back and got to sample a few of them and quite liked it.\u00a0 So it was no surprise that he suggested visiting it again.\u00a0 After all, we really love one of its sister restaurant, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baysiderestaurant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bayside <\/a>in Newport Beach.\u00a0 You can find my past posts <a href=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=2097\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=2226http:\/\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, and<a href=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=2935\" target=\"_blank\"> here<\/a>.\u00a0 Yes, 3 posts.\u00a0 That&#8217;s how much we liked it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2974\" title=\"Collages70\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages70.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages70.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages70-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While we looked over the menu, warm bread and butter were served.\u00a0 These baguette slices were really good.\u00a0 The crust was crunchy but the bread soft with a tiny chewy texture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2978\" title=\"WBday2013-1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-1.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-1.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-1-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>We decided to try 2 appetizers; Sashimi of Yellow Fin Tuna (Ginger Cucumber Salad, Avocado, Spicy Soy Vinaigrette) and Crab and Lobster Cake (Roasted Tomato-Peppers Relish, Pea Sprouts, Lemon Vinaigrette).<\/p>\n<p>The Sashimi of Yellow Fin Tuna looked beautiful!\u00a0 However, the texture of the tuna was not as tender as I expected.\u00a0 The cucumber salad underneath was very nice though.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t taste the spiciness in the vinaigrette instead it was from the jalapeno pepper slices.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2979\" title=\"WBday2013-2\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-2.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-2.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-2-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Crab and Lobster Cake was excellent!\u00a0 I especially appreciated that it was pan-grilled and not fried.\u00a0 The Roasted Tomato-Peppers Relish complimented it so well as did the Lemon Vinaigrette.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2990\" title=\"WBday2013-31\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-31.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-31.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-31-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>My daughter also ordered a Sweet Garlic Soup (Chives, Whipped Cream, Croutons).\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t taste it but she said it was good.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2980\" title=\"WBday2013-3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-3.jpg\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-3.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-3-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In an effort to eat healthier, I decided on Baked Chilean Sea Bass (Exotic Mushroom Risotto, Asparagus, Truffle Essence, Concord Grape Demi-Glace Reduction).\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had excellent Sea Bass before and was really eager to try it here.\u00a0 The presentation was beautiful. However one bite into it, I was a little disappointed.\u00a0 It was over-cooked so the fish was dry and stringy, not at all tender like I expected.\u00a0 It did have a few spots where it was tender but 80% of it was not.\u00a0 Despite the nice sauce and Mushroom Risotto it was accompanied, it was a let down.\u00a0 My other guest ordered the same dish and his was over-cooked as well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2983\" title=\"WBday2013-6\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-6.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-6.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-6-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>My son wanted meat, so I suggested 16oz Bone-in Prime Rib Chop Blue Cheese.\u00a0 The meat was very tender and flavorful, but personally I would have skipped the Blue Cheese because I found it too over-powering.\u00a0 Our server was nice enough to bring out Red-Wine reduction sauce and Peppercorn sauce for my son.\u00a0 I liked the Peppercorn one quite well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2982\" title=\"WBday2013-5\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-5.jpg\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-5.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-5-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/>My daughter&#8217;s choice of entree was Pan Seared Blackened Mahi Mahi (Sweet White Corn, Leeks, Asparagus, Shiitake Mushrooms, Lemon Caper Butter Sauce).\u00a0 She thought the sauce tasted a lot like the soup she just had, so it got a little too much for her.\u00a0 She finished only about 1\/2 of Mahi Mahi.\u00a0 When asked how it was, she gave a shrug.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2981\" title=\"WBday2013-4\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-4.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-4.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-4-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Allen&#8217;s entree was highly recommended by our server &#8211; 10 oz Bone in Prime Filet Mignon.\u00a0 This was probably the best dish of the night.\u00a0 Allen had asked for medium but it came medium rare.\u00a0 In my book, not cooking the meat according to order is a big No-No in a fine dining restaurant.\u00a0 I would have sent it back, but Allen didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Nevertheless, the filet was very tender and the sauce, vegetables, and mash potato all went well together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2984\" title=\"WBday2013-8\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-8.jpg\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-8.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013-8-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We over indulged on the desserts and order 4 plus a special dessert for the birthday girl, yours truly.\u00a0 Be warned; all the desserts were quite big.\u00a0 I think 2 people could share 1.\u00a0 The Chocolate Souffle was good, but I wish the crust was a little chewy like the one at Roy&#8217;s.\u00a0 The Creme Brulee looked really good as did the Tiramisu but I was too stuffed to try.\u00a0 The Trio Ice Cream Puffs were good, but nothing special.\u00a0 I did appreciate the nice gesture of the restaurant for the special birthday treat. \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2976\" title=\"Collages72\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages72.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages72.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages72-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had great companies that really made my birthday special.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2975\" title=\"Collages71\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages71.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages71.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Collages71-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>My daughter is amazingly creative and always makes hand-made one-of-a-kind greeting cards for everyone.\u00a0 Each one and each year is different.\u00a0 This year, she made ma a fruit basket.\u00a0 Each piece of the card is hand made and cut out by hand.\u00a0 And she makes up clever phrases for each theme!\u00a0 I love it!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2977\" title=\"WBday2013_JPEG\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013_JPEG.jpg\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013_JPEG.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WBday2013_JPEG-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Although the food wasn&#8217;t spectacular, we still enjoyed dining at Bistango.\u00a0 The restaurant is really beautiful and the atmosphere was fun and welcoming.\u00a0 They have a great Happy Hour menu served from 4:00pm &#8211; 9:00pm that I would like to try.\u00a0 Hopefully 2nd time will be a charm.
