{"id":2041,"date":"2012-06-30T10:04:09","date_gmt":"2012-06-30T17:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=2041"},"modified":"2017-05-23T11:49:25","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T18:49:25","slug":"five-bistro-st-louis-mo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/?p=2041","title":{"rendered":"Five Bistro @ St Louis, MO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Frankly, I am not a big fan of business travel by myself.\u00a0 First of all, it&#8217;s lonely on the plane and you don&#8217;t have anyone&#8217;s shoulder to nap on.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude00\u00a0 Then there are the heavy luggage, laptop, and carry-on that I need help carrying.\u00a0 Oh and because I am almost blind at night, I really need a second pair of eyes to look for directions for me.\u00a0 The list goes on.\u00a0 I was so glad on this particular trip to St. Louis, I had Allen with me.\u00a0 Traveling with him is not only fun but also &#8216;light and easy&#8217; if you know what I mean.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p>Days before our trip, I had researched online to find restaurants to try out.\u00a0 Not familiar with the area, some of the restaurants I found were quite a drive.\u00a0 Five Bistro was about a 1\/2 hour drive.\u00a0 What I found interesting in St. Louis was that the restaurants were mostly in the residential area, usually on the corner.\u00a0 It almost looked like they just turned a house into a restaurant.\u00a0 The buildings\/houses are built with red bricks which was a very different sight from the stucco homes I&#8217;m used to seeing.\u00a0 It felt kinda vintage and charming to me.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2044\" title=\"FB_JPEG1\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FB_JPEG1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FB_JPEG1.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FB_JPEG1-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The interior was a contrast, decorated in modern art deco style.\u00a0 The white linens and fresh flowers on each table was very welcoming!<\/p>\n<p>Five Bistro&#8217;s philosophy is to evoke your 5 senses (see, smell, taste, hear, and feel) during your dining experience.\u00a0 It also supports the local farms by using the locally grown and raise resource in its menu which changes daily.\u00a0 This is great because you probably wouldn&#8217;t be eating the same thing each time you come and will never get tired of it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2043\" title=\"Collages14\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Collages141.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Collages141.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Collages141-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/>After looking over the menu, I decided to try the 3-course pre fixe menu.\u00a0 Allen chose the 4-course with a beer.\u00a0 First up was Amuse Bouche with a basket of bread.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2042\" title=\"Collages12\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Collages12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Collages12.jpg 665w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Collages12-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/>My first course\u00a0 &#8211; Salad (Local Mizuna, Asparagus, House Cured Prosciutto, Local Red Radish &amp; Beatje Farm Brie).\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t sure I was going to like this because I am not a big fan of prosciutto or brie, but the combo of all the ingredient worked well together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2046\" title=\"FiveBistro-14\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-14.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-14.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-14-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Second course &#8211; Crispy Pork Cake (Rissi Farm Potato Gratin, Claverach Farm Micro Greens &amp; Red Wine Reduction).\u00a0 This was like crab cake except made with pork.\u00a0 It was surprising good with crispy outside and tender inside.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t taste fatty which I was a little concerned with.\u00a0 The potato gratin was so creamy and delicious!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2049\" title=\"FiveBistro-17\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-17.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-17.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-17-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Third Course &#8211; Spiced Lemon Honey Cake (Lemon Buttercream, Lemon Curd &amp; Honey Gelato).\u00a0 This spice was light but the cake was a denser texture than most cake.\u00a0 With the gelato, it was quite good.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2051\" title=\"FiveBistro-21\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-21.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-21-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/>Allen&#8217;s first Course &#8211; Caesar Salad (Living Water Farm Romaine, House Made Caesar Dressing, Ciabatta Crouton, Poached Chicken Egg, Parmigiano-reggiano).\u00a0 The poached egg gave this otherwise plain Caesar Salad a nice pop.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2047\" title=\"FiveBistro-15\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-15.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-15-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/>Second Course &#8211; Hickory Smoked Skuna Bay Salmon (Scallop Mousse, Creme Fraiche &amp; Missouri Stone Ground Grit Fritter).\u00a0 The salmon had a really nice smoke flavor to it.\u00a0 Like most smoked meat, it was also salty.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2045\" title=\"FiveBistro-13\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-13.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-13-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Third Course &#8211; Hickory Smoked Benne&#8217;s Farm Pork Roast (&amp; Polenta, Prairie Breeze White Cheddar, Black Pepper, Butter, Living Water Farm Baby Kale &amp; Red Wine Reduction).\u00a0 This was very well done.\u00a0 The pork was tender with tons of flavor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2048\" title=\"FiveBistro-16\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-16.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-16.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FiveBistro-16-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Fourth Course &#8211;
