Wine Bar @ Placentia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Never in a million year would I have expected a restaurant like Orea Taverna &amp; Wine Bar in Placentia!\u00a0 Not that it&#8217;s not a nice city, it is just not a city known for fine dinning, that&#8217;s all.\u00a0 But once you step inside Orea Taverna &amp; Wine Bar, it will change your impression forever!\u00a0 I was so pleasantly surprised at how charming and elegant the dining room was; not to mention how friendly and cordial the staff and owner\/chef were, also!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1890\" title=\"Orea_JPEG\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea_JPEG.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea_JPEG.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea_JPEG-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>We&#8217;re here fairly early for dinner on a week night so the crowd hadn&#8217;t built up yet.\u00a0 That was great because I felt a bit more at ease in taking pictures of my food.\u00a0 Often times I hesitated or rushed to snap photos of my food because I didn&#8217;t want to disturb other diners with camera flash or being watched as I tried to move my food around for better angles.\u00a0 It could get quite awkward with people staring.\u00a0 Thank goodness the atmosphere on this particular night was pretty relaxing!<\/p>\n<p>Once we were seated, our server came and welcomed us.\u00a0 She brought water and pita bread and gave us time to look over the menu.\u00a0 Frankly I thought the prices would have been higher for a restaurant as elegant as this but they were very reasonable.\u00a0 I breathed a sign of relief!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1891\" title=\"Collages12\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Collages123.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Collages123.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Collages123-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>Our server strongly recommended the Saganaki (Pan-fried sheep cheese with a splash of ouzo).\u00a0 I was totally not prepared for the Chef to come out and lit a fire on it!\u00a0 So I am sorry if my picture of the dish on fire (below right) was a little off.\u00a0 I just didn&#8217;t react fast enough (to get up on my feet) to snap the picture!\u00a0 But take a look at how beautifully the cheese was &#8216;fried&#8217; (below left)!\u00a0 It was a bit on the salty side even with squeeze of lemon juice.\u00a0 Nevertheless, it was delicious with the pita bread!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1892\" title=\"Collages13\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Collages132.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Collages132.jpg 850w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Collages132-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/>I decided on the Cotopoulo (Grilled, tender chicken breast served with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and our skordalia garlic sauce).\u00a0 I honestly didn&#8217;t have very high expectation because a lot of restaurants tend to cook chicken breast dry.\u00a0 Not here.\u00a0 It was quite tender.\u00a0 I was also impressed by how fresh and crispy the lettuce and tomatoes were.\u00a0 Instead of shredded lettuce, it was a whole slice of lettuce intact.\u00a0 It made it a lot less messier to eat!\u00a0 The skordalia garlic sauce was so yummy.\u00a0 You could definitely taste the garlic and yet it was flavorful and light.\u00a0 I also appreciated that the pita bread was very thin which meant less carb!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1893\" title=\"Orea-15\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea-15.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea-15-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/>Allen ordered the classic Gyro (Seasoned beef &amp; lamb on a rotisserie, sliced and served with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and our tzaziki sauce).\u00a0 Frankly I was a little disappointed because I normally don&#8217;t like Gyro because I always felt the lamb in it tasted &#8216;funny&#8217;.\u00a0 Well, not this one!<\/p>\n<p>First of all, this Gyro was ginormous!\u00a0 I thought it could easily feed 2 people!\u00a0 Secondly, after one bite of it, I ate another bite, and then another bite.\u00a0 I lost track of how may bites I ate.\u00a0 Let me just say that what I ate that night was probably more than I&#8217;ve ever eaten Gyro in all the years before.\u00a0 BEST Gyro EVER!!!\u00a0 Juicy, tender, and flavorful, simply put &#8211; perfection!\u00a0 The tzaziki sauce was light and very smooth.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1894\" title=\"Orea-17\" src=\"http:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea-17.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea-17.jpg 551w, https:\/\/wendyfulworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Orea-17-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/>This restaurant easily makes my list of top 10 restaurants to try in 2012!\u00a0 If you are coming here, let me know.\u00a0 And I will see you here, too.\u00a0 I heard the Lamb Chop is superb.\u00a0 I look forward to trying it next time.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Chef Tony and staff, for an outstanding meal!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Orea Taverna &amp;
