Daphne’s California Greek @ Brea – Summer Menu Media Tasting

What used to be Daphne’s Greek Cafe is now Daphne’s California Greek.  Whatever its name is, I like it just as much.  I first visited Daphne’s in 2008 when there was one location near my house.  I was very sad when it closed because it was one of my favorite place to grab a quick bite.  It is a much healthier alternative to burgers, pizza or fried chicken.

About a month ago, I received an invitation to try their new items to its summer menu, I couldn’t wait.  Allen and I picked the Brea location right in the heart of Brea Promenade as it was the closest to us.

The layout in all location is pretty much the same as you’d expect from a chain restaurant.  After glancing at the menu, we placed our orders.  The manager and staff were very helpful and friendly.  One thing I am impressed with Daphne’s is that no matter which location I visited, everyone has been very welcoming.

Flatbread seems to be a very popular item in every restaurant now, so we ordered the Pepperoni (Pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and savory tomato sauce).  I don’t think you can find anyone who doesn’t like Pepperoni.  🙂

Mango Chicken Salad (Grilled chicken and fresh chipotle mango salsa atop mixed greens and feta cheese tossed with a balsamic hummus dressing) is new on the menu.  I am so happy they added this because it has 3 of my favorite ingredients: mango, salad, and balsamic dressing.  It’s for a limited time only, so come try it.  Whether you eat it for lunch or dinner, t is a perfect summer entree.

Mini Pita Trio is also new on the summer menu.  The name is ‘mini’ but I thought they were pretty good sizes.

  • California Mini-Pita (above left) – A pita style sandwich with California flair featuring grilled chicken, jalapeno bacon and guacamole topped with salsa fresca.
  • Cali-Greek Mini-Pita (above right upper) – Two world flavors in one pita. This pita sandwich features grilled chicken, Daphne’s sauce, salsa fresca, feta cheese and kalamata olives
  • Greek Mini-Pita (above right upper) – A Greek style pita sandwich with savory gyros, red onion and tangy tzatziki sauce.

Allen and I enjoyed all 3.  You can’t go wrong with this.  The chicken and gyros were flavorful and tender and the pita bread were warm and soft.  All of the toppings were fresh and complimented the protein well.

I also decided to try the 3-course dinner for $7.99.  This is a STEAL!  You get a starter, an entree, and dessert!

I chose Lemon Chicken Soup as my starter.  I loved how light and refreshing this soup was.

For the Entree, I chose Grilled Chicken Kabob with Fries and Cilantro Lime Brown Rice.  I’ve always liked the Chicken Kabob.  I didn’t taste the cilantro in the rice as much as I thought I would.  But I appreciated that it was offered as one of the sides.

I got this cookie for Allen because you know he is the cookie monster.  Needless to say, he was very happy.  🙂

Have you been to Daphne’s lately?  If not, bring your family for a fresh, healthful and tasty meal soon.  They have added so many new items built on a “California-fresh” ideal with savory, rich and robust Mediterranean undertones.  Order a Family Pack that serves up to 4 people.  My family sure enjoys it. Yours will, too.
